I Am Not Ashamed

Have you ever felt as if you were being judged by someone because you are a Christian? Have you ever been asked the question, “How can you believe in something you cannot see”? Have you ever been accused of being too “religious”? Have you been called a Bible thumper?

There have been times where I felt as though people looked at me differently after I turned my life over to Jesus. In my late twenties it happened and as a result, I turned away from my faith for many years. It happened again after I re-dedicated my life to Christ in my forties. So what is the difference between then and now? Four words: I am NOT ashamed!

I am a Jesus freak (in the words of D.C. Talk) and I’m okay with that. I love Jesus with every part of my being. Yes, he does come first in my life. Yes, I do want the world to know everything about him. My twenties were a time in my life when I was easily swayed by others opinions of me. High self-esteem wasn’t my strong suit; therefore I caved to others beliefs easily. Now, I am older, wiser and I have the self-esteem I lacked back then.

I am also instructed by the word of God to share my faith with as many people as possible. That is why I do what I do. That is the reason I am writing this now. That is the reason I am writing a book about my experiences. I am NOT ashamed.

My faith in Jesus is founded on the Gospel. The Bible tells us to share it with others. Here are just a few of our instructions:

  • “I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.” - Philemon 1:6

  • “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” - 1 Peter 3:15

  • “Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” – Psalm 96:2-3

  • “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” – Matthew 24:14

Once I accepted Jesus as my Lord, I also accepted to tell the world about him. God has given me the gift of writing, so I use that gift to his glory. I am NOT ashamed. I will continue to tell as many people as I can about him. I will continue to share my faith with others. I will continue to share the Gospel with as many that will listen.

You see, Satan wants to prevent me from doing this so he often uses people’s words in an attempt to win the battle, but friends, God has already won the war. I will pick up my armor every day and share my faith with the world because I am NOT ashamed.
