Looking Back

June 25, 2017

Going through Step 6, I have realized God can be trusted. He can be trusted to help with my hurts, hang-ups, and habits that I need to let go of. Full reliance on Him is what keeps me moving through this journey of recovery.

The journey has been difficult and I am half way through now. I can look behind me and see the storms I have made it through. I can also see what lies before me is filled with hope.

Philippians 1:6 says,

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

As Paul writes his letter to Philippi, he is imprisoned by the Romans, yet he is filled with joy and hope for the future. Although I have not been in a physical prison in my life, I have felt imprisoned in my circumstances. Paul's writing gives me hope that even through hardship, God is working on my behalf. Reading this creates within me the belief that in all circumstances, good and bad, God is at work to perfect my life to be ready for the day when Christ returns.

Paul is writing the letter of Philippians to the people of the church at Philippi. They have supported his cause for Christ in many ways, including financially. He writes to them filled with gratitude for their continued support and offers them hope for the future.

Being a part of a positive community is important to continue along this journey of recovery.

This shows me the importance of community during my recovery. Whether I am suffering from current circumstances or healing from past hurts, being a part of a positive community is important to continue along this journey of recovery. Freedom from our pain is coming, this is a promise from God.

Think About It:

  • Do you believe God is working on your behalf, even during difficult times?

  • How have you seen this occur? List a few times where you have overcome hurts, habits or hang-ups and the Lord has provided in a powerful way.

  • Take a few moments and reflect on the past few months during working through the steps so far. What storms have you moved past? Thank God for the help in making it through this far.

Journal About it:

Pray About it:

As you think and write, say this prayer with me.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for showing me how to trust fully in You and your loving grace. I praise you for giving Paul the words to convey to me during my time of heartache and troubles. I am confident you are doing good things on my behalf.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
